Baby Pictures and Baby Toys

Today at breakfast, mommy showed Nick two books of pictures. Mommy said, "these are the pictures of Nick as a baby." We looked at the pictures together and mommy told Nick stores about when he was a baby.

Later, mommy went into her closet and found a bag of old toys. They were Nick's toys from when he was a baby. Mommy showed Nick the toys at dinner. Nick looked at the toys carefully, there was a little baby and a spider.

Mommy showed Nick the pictures of the toys in the book. When Nick was little, grammy bought Nick this little baby because it looked like Baby Nick!

And Nick liked the toy we called "silly spider," we used to take it in the carriage, in the car, and to restaurants.

When we were all done mommy took the toys back. Mommy said, "I keep some of your baby things in a box to remind me of when you were little. I will put them back in the box so they are safe, we can look at them again sometime."

Sprinkle Cookies

On Saturday, Nick went into mommy's baking cabinet and took out sprinkles. Mommy said, "what are you doing, you can't play with sprinkles." Nick said, "sprinkle cookie."

When mommy went to the store mommy bought cookie mix so we could make cookies. At dinner mommy told Nick we would make cookies. Nick was happy and kept going into the kitchen to see if mommy was ready.

Mommy got out all the ingredients and put them on the counter. They were mix, butter and egg. Nick put everything into the bowl and mixed them up.

Then we took out little spoons of dough and dipped them in a bowl of sprinkles and put them on the cookie sheet. We put them in the oven and when the timer rang mommy took the sheet out of the oven and put it on the stove.

Mommy put a glove on Nick's hand so he could hold the cookie sheet still, and then mommy showed Nick how to use a spatula to pick up the hot cookies and put them on the cooling rack.

Then we put the cookies in a container so we could save them. Mommy gave Nick two cookies on a plate to eat. Later mommy caught Nick sneaking into the kitchen to steal more cookies. Nick got away with one more cookie, and he laughed and said "sprinkle cookie!"

Bye Bye Christmas Tree

On Friday, mommy told Nick that in three days the Christmas tree would go back outside. Nick said "NO!" But mommy said, "Yes, sometimes we have to do sad things. In December we get a Christmas tree, and we have lights in the house. But in January the tree has to go back outside." Mommy showed Nick on the calendar that next December we would have a new tree.

On Sunday, Nick and daddy went out to stores. Mommy reminded Nick that today is the day that the tree will go outside. While Nick and daddy were out Nick was sad, and he said "tree, home" lots of times.

When daddy and Nick came home the tree was outside. Nick wanted to bring the tree back in the house, but mommy reminded Nick that it is January, and the tree has to stay outside. Nick came in the house and looked at the place where the tree used to be. He was sad. He asked for his Santa Hat, so mommy went up in the attic and got it for Nick.

Then Nick asked for his Hanuka Candles. Mommy went up in the attic and got them too. And mommy showed Nick that we still had the little tree that grammy gave Nick for Christmas. Nick put the little tree, the candles, and his gingerbread house together on the table.

Nick was still a little bit sad, but after awhile, Nick started to play computer and bounce on his ball and play with his toys again.

Later that night, mommy came into the room and asked Nick if he was still mad. Nick did not say any words, but he typed "12 Days of Christmas" into YouTube and played a video of Mickey Mouse and Friends singing the song. Mommy said, "Well maybe you're still a little mad."

Then mommy said, "That's okay, I understand. In June Nick is happy to have a pool to play in, but in September, Nick is sad when the pool is closed. It's the same kind of thing. Sometimes we can't keep things around for a long time, even if they make us happy. But at least we know another tree will come to our next house next December!"

Smile if you like pancakes!

On Friday morning, mommy said to Nick, "We have not had pancakes for breakfast in a long time. Let's make pancakes to eat."

Nick helped to make the pancakes and he ate them all up.

On Saturday, mommy decided to surprise Nick, so mommy made Nick one big pancake and put blueberries, kiwi and raspberry to make a smile face. When Nick sat down he smiled at his smiling pancake.

But then he took the berries off the pancake and put them in the bowl with the other fruit. Apparently Nick does not want to mix his foods.

Mommy says, "that's okay, I'm happy that you eat all your food and that you sit at the table with me to have breakfast."
