The Memorial Day Parade

Every year on Memorial Day, the city of Long Beach has a parade to honor our veterans. The parade goes right past our house, so we take our chairs outside and watch the parade. When Nick was little he was afraid of the noises, and he would not go outside. He would run into his room and hide until the music was all gone.

Mommy remembered 2007, that was the first year that Nick came outside to watch the parade. Nick wore his American Flag t-shirt and a flag inspired hat he made at school. A man walked by and gave Nick a flag that he waved in the air when people walked by.

In 2008 Nick was very happy about the parade. Nick wore his I LOVE NY t-shirt, and again, a man walked by and gave Nick a flag. Mommy brought Nick's trampoline outside, and Nick jumped and waved the flag as people were walking by.

In 2009 Nick wore his American stripes bathing suit.

But this year Nick was wearing his red USA t-shirt and his big Uncle Sam hat.

Mommy wore a little Uncle Sam hat that matched Nick's big Uncle Sam hat. We looked so funny together!

Lots of people in the parade shouted out to us, "Hey! Great Hats!"

Professional Day

Last week was School Spirit Week. Each day the kids had to dress a different way. On Wednesday, it was Professional Day. The night before, mommy took Nick to get a haircut.

Then mommy showed Nick some of daddy's funny ties. We chose a tie of Snoopy at work. He was sitting at the computer and taking paper out of the printer, just like Nick.

On Wednesday morning, McKenzie got Nick dressed in clean pants and a collar shirt. Daddy helped Nick put on the tie.

Then Nick sat down at his computer until the school bus arrived.

Mommy said, "Nick, you look just like the guys at work. Very professional!"

Red, White, and Blue

Nick loves to buy seasonal things at the craft store. In February we bought red hearts for Valentine's Day. In March lots of green for St. Patrick's Day. Then in April we bought colorful eggs for Easter.

Now we are getting ready for summer. In May we have Memorial Day, and in July we celebrate July 4th. Both holidays celebrate with American flags, so there are lots of red, white, and blue items to choose from. This weekend Nick picked out a big star, a little flag, a statue of Uncle Sam, and colorful bells.

Oh, and Nick also got a big hat!

Yay! Summer is coming!
