The Long Beach Library

Nick loves to go to the Long Beach library. Today mommy and Nick went out in the car, and when we were driving in the center of town Nick said, "Library." Mommy said, "Do you want to go to the library?" and Nick said, "Yes."

We had one movie to return. We walked up to the front desk and the lady said, "Hi Nick." She scanned the label and said we did not owe any money. We had to go upstairs to the kids section. Mommy said, "Do you want to take the elevator or the stairs?" Nick said, "elevator." Nick pressed the button and we waited for the elevator. When the doors opened we went inside and Nick pressed the button with the number 2 on it.

We went to the kids section and Nick picked out three movies. Then we walked down the stairs and waited on line to see the lady again. Nick took out his green library bag and gave the lady mommy's card. She said, "Do you know we have a red bag that says Long Beach Library on it?" She showed us the bag. It cost $1.15. Mommy gave Nick money to pay for it, then we put the movies inside and walked out the doors to the street.

Nick was swinging the bag and singing and smiling. Mommy took out the camera and took a picture of Nick outside the library with his new bag.

Mommy said, "I remember when you did not want to bring movies back to the library. Now you understand that the library is not a store, and you pack up your movies and return them to get new ones. I'm proud you have learned how to do this. Maybe we can take out books to read together."

Nick said, "NO!"

Mommy gave Nick a kiss and said, "I think we should try, you can learn that too."

Happy Birthday McKenzie

This is McKenzie, she takes care of Nick.

She comes to our house in the morning and makes Nick pancakes for breakfast. And then she packs his lunch, and makes sure his clothers look handsome for school.

In the afternoon she meets the schoolbus and she takes care of Nick. Sometimes they play computer games, or play in the yard, or do homework or jobs around the house. Every week McKenzie takes Nick to Gino's to eat pizza dinner.

Last week was McKenzie's birthday. Mommy and Nick made a card and a present. Nick painted a picture frame and put flower stickers on top. We also went to the store and picked out a rainbow cake with a butterfly.

Nick did a good job carrying the cake and singing happy birthday, but he started to blow out the candles before he got to the table, so mommy had to light them again

Nick sang Happy Birthday again and then Nick and McKenzie blew out the candles together, although Nick did most of the work.

Mommy said, "Hey, I want to take a picture." But Nick kept making sad, or serious, faces. He did not want to smile on any of the pictures . McKenzie said, "That's okay, I see Nick smile all the time."

So mommy turned off the camera and or course, Nick was smiling and laughing right away!

That's our Nickster!

No Pool in April

Now that it is April the weather is getting warmer. On Sunday, mommy and daddy were outside cleaning up the yard. Nick was outside too.

Nick wanted his pool, but when daddy took the cover off there was no water inside. Nick was sad and said, "I want pool." Mommy and daddy told Nick that we cannot have a pool until June when the weather is warmer. Nick was not happy with that answer. He went into the shed and took out some of the hoses and filters and tried to put them on the pool himself.

But in the end Nick could not make the pool work. He played with the sprinkler hose instead.

Mommy and daddy better be sure we can have that pool ready by June or Nick is going to be very upset with us!

LICM

Nick is on spring break, and everyday McKenzie takes care of Nick while mommy and daddy go to work.

One day Nick wrote something down on paper and gave it to McKenzie. It said LICM The Long Island Children's Museum. On Friday, McKenzie took Nick to the museum.

Nick sat down in a train car.

And played in the sand on a pretend beach.

And he stretched out in a big nest.

Mommy looked at the pictures with Nick on the computer. Mommy asked Nick, "did you have a good time at the museum?" But Nick did not say any words. Mommy said, "well, you are smiling in the pictures so I think you did have a good time."

Daffodils for Spring

It has been a long and cold winter with lots of snow. Now the spring is here and the weather is getting warmer. Nick wants to play in his pool but there is no water inside. Mommy told Nick he can play in the pool in June, we have to wait until then.

Mommy took Nick to the front yard. Mommy said, "Look, the daffodils are coming up! They tell us that the summer is coming soon."

Mommy and Nick took pictures of the flowers. Mommy told Nick, "In the summer the daffodils will be gone, but we will see new flowers in their place. Now we have a picture to remind us how pretty they were."
