Easter Sunday at the Beach

Today is Easter Sunday. It is a beautiful sunny day, so mommy and Nick took a walk together. Usually Nick likes to walk on the same streets all the time, but today Nick listed to mommy and we walked on new streets. We found the Belaire Pizzeria and mommy and Nick went in and had pizza lunch.

Then we walked to the beach. Nick was so excited when we found a pathway to the beach. He said to mommy, "ocean."

We walked on the sand to the water. Mommy and Nick walked out onto the rocks. Nick was very happy, he never did this before. He loved to sit and look out and the waves.

Nick even reached down to touch the water.

Mommy tried to get Nick to walk on the sand but it did not work. Nick wanted to play in the ocean. The water was so cold! But Nick did not care, he still jumped in the water and splashed water all around.

Finally mommy convinced Nick that it was time to go home. We sat down to sit with our feet in the sun so that we could clean the sand off our feet. Look how went Nick's pants are!

Then we went up to the boardwalk and sat on a bench. We watch other people playing in the sand and in the water. All the people were happy.

Then we walked home on the boardwalk. Nick kept saying, "May, June." Nick did not like our cold rainy April and he wants summer to begin.

Bye Bye Birds

A few years ago, when Nick was little, birds flew around Nick and he got scared. Ever since then, Nick has been afraid of big birds like and pigeons and seagulls. When mommy, daddy, or McKenzie take Nick out to stores or to the park to play, we tell Nick to say things like, "bye, bye, birds," or "it's okay." But Nick is still afraid. So today, Nick's teachers Weitzman and Ms. Falbee came to our house. They took Nick to the beach with mommy and McKenzie.

At first Nick was afraid. He sat on the bench and played in the sand. We could tell that he wanted to go to the ocean but he was too afraid. We gave Nick Skittles and let him take off his shoes and socks. We waited for a long time and it seemed like Nick would not go to the ocean, so we all put on our shoes and got ready to go home. Nick pointed to the water and said, "ocean."

Finally Nick started walking towards the ocean.

He walked slowly and was scared when birds flew close to us.

Finally we made it to the ocean. There are storms coming to Long Beach so the waves were very big.

The Nick surprised us by running towards the water! His teacher ran after him and then they got caught on the surf, Nick's shoes got all wet and full of sand!

Then we walked home together. We were all so proud of Nick.

Bye, bye, birds.

Nickerson Beach

It has been a cold winter and we have spent a lot of time indoors. But on Sunday it was sunny and warm, so mommy took Nick to Nickerson Park. They have a skateboard park, playground, and the beach.

Nick rode his scooter all around and up and down the ramps.

Then we walked through the sand dunes until we could see the ocean.

We walked on the sand to the waterline.

When we got to the water Nick wrote in the sand OCEAN. He wanted to go into the water, but mommy told Nick it was too cold. Mommy let Nick put his hands in the water when the tide washed in, but the water was very cold and Nick shook his hands in the air. Mommy rubbed Nicks hands until they were warm again.

Then we walked back to the playground. Nick climbed up as high as he could and looked back at the ocean.

When we went back to the car Nick was smiling. Mommy said, "we were here for almost two hours, I hope you had a good time."
Nick told mommy, "summer." Mommy said, "yes, it will be summer soon."

Dr. Lauren

On Sunday we did something different. Mommy, Daddy and Nick put on nice clothes and went to the Ocean Club. We went to a party for Lauren. All of Lauren's friends were there to celebrate her graduation, and Nick went too. Nick helped mommy make a big card with a picture and stickers to give as a present.

Nick looked handsome in his blue shirt and blue pants. We walked into the room and Lauren gave Nick a big hug.

There were lots of people there who knew Nick. Girls gave him big hugs and guys gave him high fives! Nick even danced on the floor with Lauren and daddy and he sat at the bar and drank water from a big cup.

Nick also did good sitting at the table. There was lots of food for Nick to eat. He ate cucumber, grilled cheese sandwich, pineapple and strawberry.

There was a big door leading outside to the beach. Nick loved playing in the sand and was running back and forth on the beach.

Now that Lauren is a doctor she can't take care of Nick anymore. She is going to work at a hospital far away. We will miss her very much.

Everyone was so proud that Nick was a good boy at the party.

After AHRC on Saturday

On Friday night, Nick was playing on the computer. He brought Mommy over to the computer to see what he was looking at. It was the webpage for Hick’s Nurseries. Mommy reminded Nick that he went there with his class a few days earlier. Nick's teacher sent home a story about their trip and Mommy and Nick read the story together.

The next day, when Mommy went to pick up Nick at AHRC Mommy wanted to go for a walk but Nick said “No, Wendy’s.” Mommy said we could go for a walk first and then go to Wendy’s but Nick said “no, car, Wendy’s.” Mommy said ok and that’s what we did. After Wendy’s mommy reminded Nick about Hick’s Nurseries and we went there to see flowers and pumpkins.

When we got back to Long Beach, Mommy said "hey, let's go to the boardwalk," so Nick and Mommy went to see the boardwalk. Nick wanted to run but Mommy was tired and said we had to sit on the bench. Nick did good sitting and watched the ocean and the people on the beach.
