Too Many Pumpkins

Now that summer is done, Nick has been wanting to decorate for Halloween, but mom said we had to wait until the end of September.  On Friday, mommy went into the attic and brought down last year's decorations.  Nick took everything out and displayed them on the bookshelves.

We also found something we bought last year, they were little plastic faces that we put on a real pumpkin.  Nick decorated a real pumpkin and put it on the table in front of the house so he can see it from the window.  On Sunday, Nick ate his breakfast with the silly looking pumpkin.

This is our ceramic pumpkin.  Mom told Nick, "This used to belong to grammy, she would put this in the window when I was a little girl."

We put it on a little table with garland around it, and we put a light inside so we can see the shape of the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Mom looked around the room at all the real and plastic pumpkins and said, "Please don't buy anymore Halloween decorations, our house looks festive enough!"

Nick's Pool is Closed

September is here, that means summer is done. Nick is back at school and the weather is getting cooler.  At night Nick can't swim in the pool anymore because it's too cold.

Nick reminded mom and dad that the Rec Center pool is open, we wrote down this note and then dad said, "ok, I will take you to the Rec Center pool."

Nick put on his bathing suit and packed up his pool bag.  He walked around outside until dad was ready to go in the car.

When dad and Nick came home, mom asked if Nick had a good time.  Dad said, "Nick was very quiet at the pool, he did not want to jump off the diving board.  Maybe he was too sad about his own pool closing."

Mom showed Nick the calendar and said, "Don't worry Nick, your pool will be back in June.  Every month has fun things to do."  We looked at the calendar and Nick talked about each month.  In October we decorate pumpkins.  In November we have Thanksgiving.  In December we get a Christmas tree.

That put a smile on Nick's face.

Shopping for School Supplies

Last week was the first day of school.  Nick is now a student at the Long Beach High School, and his new teacher sent home a list of supplies.  Mommy told Nick we would go to two stores, CVS Pharmacy and Staples.  Mommy gave Nick the list of items we had to buy, and he typed them up into two lists so we could take them to the stores.

In CVS we bought:
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Mouth Wash
  • Deodorant
  • Brush and Comb
  • Facial Soap
  • Baby wipes

Nick and mommy walked through the store and crossed things off our list.  Then we scanned the items and put them in a bag.

Next we went to Staples.  We bought:
  • Box of black pens
  • Box of pencils
  • Glue sticks
  • Magic Markers

There were lots of people buying school supplies that day.  Nick did a good job waiting on line for our turn to pay.

When were were done mommy told Nick he did a good job shopping for things on his list.

Then Nick asked mommy if we could go to Micheal's.  Nick picked out a Halloween decoration, but mommy said, "we are not decorating the house for Halloween until October 1st."

A visit from Theresa

On Saturday, mommy got a phone call from Theresa from Pelikan's Peeps.  She said she had something for Nick and wanted to come visit us.  She brought Nick a pop-up book about architecture, and other books about buildings and New York city.  Theresa remembered how much Nick loved buildings, bridges and cities.

While Theresa visited we showed her Nick's yearbooks from Long Beach Middle School.  Theresa remembered Luke, Matt and Zach from elementary school, she said, "My goodness, how big all the boys have gotten!"

After Theresa left, mommy showed Nick old pictures on the computer.  Theresa used to let Nick play on her computer and she used to take pictures from the monitor.  This is a picture from 2009 of Nick with Theresa and Lauren.

This is picture of Theresa with Nick in 2008, at Nick's birthday party.  She gave Nick a blue bean bag chair because he loved sitting on the bean bag chair at Pelikan's Peeps.

When Theresa left the house Nick looked out the window with a smile on his face.  Mommy said, "How thoughtful of Theresa to bring you books that she thought you would like!  You are such a lucky boy!"
