A Visit From Grammy

This weekend, Nick had a surprise - grammy came to visit! When grammy got out of the car Nick was playing with the garden hose, he had a happy face and he ran up to grammy and gave her two hugs and a kiss!


Grammy stayed in McKenzie's room. Nick walked in whenever he wanted to check on grammy. He jumped right into her bed, and grammy said, "oh, you used to do this when you were little!"


On Saturday, we took Nick to AHRC to play, and in the evenings we all sat down to dinner together. Grammy was impressed that Nick did a good job sitting at the table for family dinner, and that Nick is eating new foods. On Sunday night we all had the same dinner, shrimp scampi with spaghetti.


On Monday, it was time for Nick to go back to school. Grammy was going to take the bus home.

When the school bus came to the house, grammy gave Nick a hug and a kiss and walked Nick outside to the bus.


Grammy said, "I had a wonderful weekend with you, I will see you in two weeks when I come back to visit again."

Grammy's Old Building

On Friday night Nick showed mommy and daddy a note he printed from the computer.

Those were a lot of words! Nick is happy that spring is coming, and he is always talking about visiting grammy's old building in New Rochelle.

Nick also showed mommy a picture he printed from the computer. It is people riding their bikes across a bridge. It is the Pelham Bay Bridge, and that is the bridge that we used drive on to get to grammy's building. Mommy can't believe that Nick still remembers the way to grammy's house.

Nick travels the route all the time on Google Maps, so that must be why he remembers!

Nick's New York City Visit

On Saturday there was no AHRC. When Nick woke up mommy gave Nick a paper with a picture schedule of his day.

This is what it said:

Today we will take the LIRR to New York City.
We will visit mommy's work.
Go to the Time Warner Center to meet grammy.
Visit Central Park to look for a sprinkler park.
Take the bus to grammy's house.
Eat pizza dinner.
Come home.

First we went to mommy's work. Nick loves to look out the big windows, he can see all of the city.

Then we went to the Time Warner Center to meet Grammy. We had lunch at Whole Foods and then we crossed the street past Columbus Circle and into Central Park. It was a beautiful day and there were so many people walking, riding bicycles and sitting on the grass.

We walked under the trees until we found the playground and the sprinkler park. Nick was so happy, he loves sprinkler parks! There were lots of kids running and playing in the water. There were bridges and tunnels with water running through. Nick spent a long time playing and climbing and splashing in the water.

Over and over again Nick climbed to the highest tower so he could look down at the park. He also looked up at the buildings of New York City, and he would point to them and say "building."

Then we were all done. Nick put on his shoes and we walked back to the street and took the bus to Grammy's house. We picked up pizza dinner on the way, and when we got back to grammy's Nick played on the computer and then it was time to sit at the table and eat pizza dinner. Nick did a good job sitting at the table.

Then it was time to go home. It takes a long time to go home from New York City. We had to take the M86 bus across town, and then the #1 train to Penn Station. When we got to Penn Station Nick asked mommy for ice cream. When Nick is a good boy mommy buys Nick ice cream to eat on the train.

On Sunday mommy and Nick looked at the paper schedule from our trip. Mommy told Nick he was a good boy and asked Nick if he had a good time. Nick did not say anything but he did have a big smile on his face.

Working in the Garden

Today is Mother's Day. Mommy likes to start the garden on Mother's Day.

Mommy, Grammy and Nick went to the Garden Center to buy flowers. We picked out little pink flowers to plant around our tree.


Then we planted the flowers in the garden. Mommy asked Nick to help. Mommy and Nick took the little plants out of the boxes and put them on the ground.

Then we put on gardening gloves. We made holes in the dirt and put the flowers inside and put dirt around them.

Nick did not want to help mommy for long, he wandered away to play.


Mommy remembered a long time ago when Nick was little. We taught Nick how to work in the garden.


And even then he did not want to help for long, and wandered away to play.

The Big Apple Circus

On Thanksgiving weekend, Mommy and Nick went to New York City. We took the train and went to visit Mommy's work. Nick likes to look out the windows and see all the buildings in New York City.

Then we took the A Train to Columbus Circle. We walked into the Time Warner Center and Grammy was sitting there waiting for us! We went downstairs to have lunch and Grammy told Nick that we were going to The Big Apple Circus and we would see cousin Henry.

Nick was happy when we got to the circus. We went inside the big tent and found our seats. Henry and Aunt Stefani were already in their seats waiting for us. Nick did good sitting and quiet voice most of the time during the show. In the middle of the show mommy and Nick went to sit in the back where there were no other people. Nick watched clowns and people high up on swings. There were horses and dogs too!

At the end of the show we said "all done."

Then we walked in the streets to Rockefeller Center. The big tree lights are not on yet, but mommy said we would go back to see them. We went inside the building and downstairs to a table and watched the skaters on the rink.
